Operating systems

An operating system is the most important program that must be installed on every computer. It allows you to control the device, perform tasks, and install and uninstall programs or applications. Modern operating systems are designed so that any user can easily navigate them.

Windows operating systems

Today, we find operating systems on computers, phones, and tablets alike. However, operating systems for mobile devices are different and come pre-installed—they cannot be purchased separately. Well-known operating systems for mobile devices include Android and iOS (the mobile version of macOS). They perform a similar function to operating systems for desktop computers or laptops. They support applications and processes and allow for convenient use of the device. In this category, you will find operating systems designed for computers. One of the most popular operating systems is Windows 10.

Computer operating systems – what they are and how they have evolved over the years

Computer operating systems have quite a long history. This history is, of course, closely tied to the emergence of computers themselves, which took place several decades ago. Operating the first devices was quite complicated and time-consuming. Thus, the idea arose to optimize the use of the hardware as much as possible. From there, it was only a short step to creating a system that would significantly simplify these tasks—namely, the programs known as operating systems. Thus, the search began for a way to simplify working with the operating system.

The operating system didn’t immediately become what we know today. At the very beginning, the main goal was to make using a computer less expensive and to ensure the device operated as efficiently as possible. To achieve this, programs were installed on computers that were dedicated solely to managing the hardware and communicating with the user. This significantly simplified the execution of individual operations within the system and, above all, reduced the time previously required to open an application, enter a password, and select the task to be performed at that moment. The operating system was becoming increasingly practical.

The next step toward creating an operating system was to enable the processor to execute one instruction while simultaneously executing another. It was discovered that, for example, while handling a print job, the processor still had some spare processing power—it didn’t use all of it for a single process. So the idea arose to use this fact to create a suitable version of the system. The processor can use the remaining power to handle another task. Over time, functionality was introduced that allowed the computer to perform multiple tasks at once. This feature, known as multitasking, remains one of the key features of modern operating systems such as Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.

Computer operating systems

Operating systems installed on a computer should provide an interface that allows users to perform tasks and operations. For example, an operating system should offer functions that stop a given command or launch another one. Whenever we want to perform any action on the device, we as users rely on this interface—in this case, the user interface. In contrast, the system interface is responsible for executing tasks, although the tasks themselves do not need to be aware of the specifics of the hardware’s operation. This makes it easier for programmers to create applications and programs compatible with a given operating system.

Not all operating systems have the graphical user interface we are familiar with from systems like MS Windows. Some operating systems have minimalist versions that still require a certain level of technical skill to use. Graphical operating systems are the most user-friendly and convenient to use, which is why they are the most popular and widely chosen today.

Computer operating systems perform the following main functions:

  • service,
  • protection,
  • renewal,

The primary function of operating systems is to run various types of programs. More broadly, this function can be described as the allocation of physical resources—such as hardware devices—and logical resources—such as programs and files—among users. These tasks are carried out by operating systems according to a strategy specific to each system.

Another function performed by a computer’s operating system is process management—that is, managing the execution of tasks—as well as managing the computer’s memory. This is primarily intended to ensure proper data synchronization and fast communication when multiple programs are running simultaneously. Processes must not block each other—this is precisely what the computer’s operating system “monitors.” It is also important to respond quickly to system errors and special events, as well as to load new programs into the device’s memory.

Another function of a computer operating system is protection. This primarily involves preventing the loss or corruption of data stored in the computer’s memory. Data can be deleted or damaged, for example, as a result of a software error or a system failure. This function also involves protecting data from unauthorized access.

The third feature that distinguishes computer operating systems is recovery. This involves removing or minimizing the effects of potential system failures. As part of this feature, operating systems restore data to its state prior to the failure, and it is possible to revert the system to an earlier version.

It is important to remember that not every operating system can run every program. Which games or applications can be opened on a given system depends on many factors, including the architecture of that particular operating system.

PC Operating Systems – Types

Currently, the three most popular operating systems are Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. The Mac OS operating system is used on Apple devices.Microsoft Windowsis the most widely used system today and is considered the most intuitive and user-friendly. As for these computer operating systems, they belong to the group of graphical systems. This means that the user interacts with the operating system through an intuitive interface. The advantage of this approach is the ease of use of the operating system. Anyone will be able to learn how to use such a system and operate a computer without any problems. Before graphical versions, there were also text-based versions of operating systems—for example, the MS-DOS operating system, which was operated by entering appropriate commands in the command line. However, MS-DOS was eventually replaced by systems with graphical interfaces.

Operating Systems Store

As already mentioned, a computer’s operating system is the most important program on any PC. Without it, you cannot use the device or operate it in any way. To ensure a high level of comfort when working on a computer withan operating system, you should purchasea legal version of Windows. It is best to buy computer operating systems from trusted, authorized retailers to ensure that the software is genuine.

If you want to purchase a fully tested and legitimate operating system, Teamnet Software is the place to go. You’ll find a selection here that’s sure to satisfy you. If you’re not sure which PC operating system is best for you, we’ll be happy to advise you and explain the differences between the software versions. You’ll also find other computer software here: office suites, antivirus programs, and much more.

Microsoft Windows – one of the most popular operating systems in the world

There are few computer users who aren't familiar with this operating system. Windows 10 is the most popular, device manufacturers install this very system on their devices—Microsoft Windows, or the popular “Windows.”, Where does the name come from? To figure it out, just look at the user interface that sets this computer software apart., Working with the system involves opening windows, closing them, and switching between them. And although the Windows interface has changed over the years (and, for example, was without the famous Start Menu for a time), the operating system still works the same way.

Why is Microsoft’s Windows so popular? First and foremost, it’s hard to find a competitor for it today. Of course, there’s also macOS, but that system is limited to Apple devices and comes with its own ecosystem.Windows is universal, and you don’t have to stick to a single brand of hardware to use it. It’s also worth noting the ease of use and the operating principles of Windows, which haven’t changed significantly over the years. Visually, the system has evolved, adapting its look to current trends, but even someone switching from Windows 98 to Windows 10 today would be able to navigate the latest version. This is a hallmark of good computer software. Because it is an intuitive system, and its most important components always function similarly. Windows users, meanwhile, have grown accustomed to these operating principles, as evidenced by the poorly received removal of the aforementioned Start Menu in Windows 8. It should be noted here that the menu has been restored and is still functional in Windows 10, albeit in a visually refreshed form. It is also significant that, unlike, for example, Linux, Windows was installed on virtually every computer. Users learned how to use it and became accustomed to using this particular system—Windows.

Computer software

Choose the genuine version of software for home or business use—select the best operating system for your computer. In this category, you’ll find various editions of operating systems, each with slightly different features. However, each one will allow you to safely and comfortably use your hardware, perform various tasks, work, or play games. If you need computer software for your business, go for the Windows Professional editions, which offer the most advanced functionality of all and are comprehensive.
