Screen recording in Windows 10 – how do you do it?

Wondering how to record your screen? If you have a Windows 10 computer, it won’t be a problem. This operating system has a built-in “Game Mode” profile. Although this feature was designed with avid gamers in mind, it’s not just for them. It’s also perfect for people who want to record what they’re doing on their computer.

To enable "Game Mode," go to the menu and click Start -> Settings -> Gaming. Then go to the tab:

  • "Game Mode" – the slider should be turned on by default. If it isn't, slide it so that it turns blue or green;
  • Xbox Game Bar – here, too, the slider should be moved to the right. However, if it is turned off, move it.

You can then start using features such as Windows 10 screen recording. However, this doesn’t mean that whatever is displayed on the screen is already being recorded. To start recording your desktop, press the three keys simultaneously: Win+Alt+R. You can stop recording what’s on the screen the same way.

You can also set your own keyboard shortcut to start recording. You can do this in the "Xbox Game Bar" tab below the blue slider.

How do I start recording my screen with audio?

Do you want to record your screen along with audio? To enable this feature, go back to the menu and click Start -> Settings -> Gaming. Next, go to the "Captures" tab and, under "Record audio while recording gameplay," slide the toggle so that it turns blue.

In the same place, you can change the settings for recorded sounds. You can choose to:

  • recording quality,
  • microphone and system volume,
  • what is to be recorded—whether just the game audio or other sounds as well.

This way, you'll create an interesting video that people will enjoy watching.

How to Record Your Screen in Windows 10 – Practical Tips

Have you managed to enable all the screen recording features? It’s time to start recording what you’re doing on your computer! It’s easy. Press two keys at the same time: Win+R. This will launch the game bar (if you’ve already set up your own shortcut, use that instead). A panel will then appear on the screen with various functions marked by different symbols:

  • the camera icon means "screenshot";
  • the crossed-out arrow means "record the last 30 seconds";
  • the period indicates "start recording";
  • The microphone button is the "microphone on/off" button.

Wondering how to record your screen without showing the game bar? You can use keyboard shortcuts. Here are the most important ones:

  • Win+Alt+PrtScr – "screenshot";
  • Win+Alt+G – "Record this";
  • Win+Alt+R – "start/stop recording";
  • Win+Alt+M – "Turn the microphone on/off."

With these keyboard shortcuts, you can quickly start screen recording even in the middle of a game. It's a very practical solution.

Do you have a laptop and don't know how to record your screen? If you're running Windows 10, the process is the same. Just follow the steps above, and you'll be able to record what you do throughout the day.

Where can I find screen recordings from my computer?

Screen recording lasts up to 2 hours. It can also end earlier if you press the Win+Alt+R keyboard shortcut. The clip may also stop if, for example, you close the program window. In that case, a tooltip will appear on the screen with the message “The game clip has been recorded.” If you click on it, the system will take you to the folder where all the recordings are stored. Importantly, the files are saved in MP4 format. This makes it easy to edit them in popular software or send them to someone else.

Want to access your recordings, but the screen recording notification window isn't showing up on your computer? To open the videos, go to "My Computer," then "Video," and then navigate to the "Captured" tab.

Don't waste any more time wondering how to record your Windows screen! Try out these keyboard shortcuts and see what you can capture.
