How to protect a folder with a password? Windows 10

Protecting a folder with a password using the operating system is very easy. Let’s go through all the steps of this process one by one.

1. Right-click on the icon of the folder you want to secure with a password, then click “Properties” (or left-click on the folder icon and press the key combination Alt + Enter, which opens the same menu).
   
   
   
2. In the “General” section (the default section that opens first), at the bottom there is the “Attributes” element. Click the “Advanced” button.
3. Check the option “Encrypt contents to secure data.” Click “Apply,” then “OK.”
   

Depending on your settings, a system message “Encrypting File System” may appear in the lower right corner of the desktop. Through it, you can back up the certificate and file encryption key and save it on an external drive. If you choose this option, a wizard will start—you can also select “Back up later” or cancel it entirely.

The folder icon now has a characteristic padlock. This means the folder is secured.

NOTE: encryption in this way is tied to your account in Windows 10. This means that another user of the same computer or network will not have access to the encrypted contents; however, when you are logged into the system (using your profile), a password is not necessary.
